Cycling tours Loire Valley

This luxurious cycling tour of Loire Valley is designed to leave a lasting impression. The cycling routes will take you through lush forests and beautiful vineyards and visit the most important castles in Loire Valley. The tour offers different cycling itinerary options to accommodate different profiles from casual to more experienced riders. 

Day 1: ARRIVE IN AMBOISE

Getting to Amboise from Paris is easiest by taking the high speed TGV train to Saint-Pierre-des-Corps (next to Tours) and then a taxi the rest of the way. The hotel is a 20 minute drive from the train station. If you arrive in Amboise earlier in the day you will enjoy discovering the quaint city.

Day 4: CYCLE TO VILLANDRY AND AZAY LE RIDEAU CASTLES ON TO LUYNES

You start the day with a ride through the rolling scenery leading to Azay le Rideau, or you could visit the Chateau of Villandry. Two different kinds of castles. Villandry has spectacular gardens that are well worth visiting, while Azay le Rideau is a beutiful Renaissance castle that perfectly represents that period. The day continues by crossing the Loire river and discovering the Chateau of Langeais. The last part of the ride is a relatively long ride in the countryside before arriving at the Domaine de Beauvois for the night.

Day 5: CHINON TO FONTEVRAUD ABBEY TO SAUMUR

Your day starts with a taxi transfer to the wine town of Chinon. Chinon is famous for its castle as well; dating back to Joan of Arc and medieval times. From Chinon, you will have a leisure ride toward the famous and historic Abbaye de Fontevraud. This double monastery dates back to the year 1110. It is still a functioning abbey and open to visitors. After your visit, continue to your hotel nearby with gourmet dinner.

Day 6: LOOP RIDE AROUND SAUMUR

The town of Saumur has a wonderful feel to it with it's cobbled streets and well kept city centre. The Saumur castle is on top of a hillside, overlooking the city with a small vineyard creating a truly charming decor. The castle was originally built in the 10th century by Thibault le Tricheur, the Count of Blois, as a stronghold against his enemies. The loop ride of the day will take you to visit the Montreuil Bellay chateau before returning back to the starting point and a second night in the same hotel.

Day 7: DEPARTURE DAY

The trip is now over and it is time to leave the Loire valley, but if you feel like the stay has been a little too short, extra nights can be arranged.
