Provence has a large range of local appellations. Your private guide will take you to taste some of it.
Find below a list of some of the appellations we would take you to !
The Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire are located on the foothills of the famous Montagne Sainte-Victoire which were a source of inspiration for the painter Cézanne. The vineyards are mainly located on south-facing hillsides, protected from the Mistral wind thus the efficiently clay-limestone soils with significant stoniness benefit from all the necessary assets for quality production.
With an area of 4300 hectares, the Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence vineyards are the most westerly in the region. The Mediterranean climate associated with the Mistral and the limestone soil give sublime rosé and red wines but also whites.
The vineyards of the Cassis appellation are rare since it represents only 210 hectares. Indeed it is only planted in the town of Cassis, sheltered by the Cap Canaille: The highest maritime cliff of France. The whites represent 80% of the production. They are generous and succulent white wines with some notes of citrus fruits, white flowers, almonds or honey fragrances.
The Bandol vineyards extend from the Sainte Baume massif to the Mediterranean Sea over 1600 hectares. This territory forms a natural amphitheater which offers exceptional conditions for a high quality result. This land imposes cultivation in the form of a terrace, which offers a unique landscape. But this is also here that the Mourvèdre grape variety is cultivated, a variety that is difficult to grow but which produces very great wines, one of the best vintages in France.
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is the jewel of the southern Rhône Valley wine heritage, and one of the greatest French vintages. In the 14th century, Pope John XXII had a fortress built in Châteauneuf and developed the famous vineyard there. Its cultivation was perpetuated in the papal tradition of the City of the Popes of Avignon.
Having been the summer residence of the Avignon popes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape still retains the remains of its papal castle. Due to its location along the Rhône River, its architectural heritage bears witness to its history as a fortified village. It is also a typical Provence village which invites you to enjoy the sweetness of life and to discover its gourmet terroir.
At the end of your wine tasting day, your guide will take you back to Aix-en-Provence.
