Normandy is known all across the world as the cradle of Impressionism. Discovering the coastline, you'll quickly understand why! The light is unique, sometimes intense, sometimes soft as it hangs on the details of a cliff or caresses the endless beaches, respectively. The colors of the English Channel add to the dramatic scenery: infinite shades of blue, grey and green! You'll want to keep your eyes open to admire the seagulls, waves and froth!
The abbey features vertical granite construction with numerous gigantic staircases that lead you to the abbey church, a Romanesque-style nave with a bright gothic choir. Enjoy the quiet strolli through the monastic buildings, known as the Merveille ("wonder" in English). First the cloister, the fully-realized work of art of the abbey, with its fine columns and refined sculpted capitals and above all its breathtaking view overlooking the sea! Continue your discovery with the Chapter Room, the Refectory with its incredible stained-glass windows, the Guestroom and its huge fireplaces, and the Knight's room covered by amazing rib vaults and a succession of small chapels and crypts.
Lunch at your leisure.
Solidly perched on a small island approximately 1 km (1/2 mile) away from the coast, Mont St-Michel is the stuff of dreams: a deep sandy bay, a medieval fortified village and a hilltop abbey. Founded in 709 A.D. by bishop Aubert to honor the Archangel Michael who protects the island from the top of the sharp steeple, discover over 1300 years of history here. The main road in the village is full of narrow half-timbered houses.

These two names sound like tragic memories. Heart of the American sector, discovering Omaha and Utah will take you back to this glorious and scary 6th of June 1944. Try to imagine the thunderous bombings on the beach contrasting today with the peaceful and bucolic atmosphere. “Bloody Omaha”, called after the numerous corpses left on the beach, is a great example of human bravery whereas Utah offers a picturesque view of the famous parachutist hung at the bell tower of Sainte-Mère-Eglise.
30 m high cliffs overlooking the sea, Pointe-du-Hoc is a dramatic historic site. Imagine hundreds of craters showing the massive bombings prior the landing. US Rangers had to climb the cliff to neutralize German canons…and found there a huge surprise. Unforgettable moment.

A piece of America in Normandy. After the end of the war, in 1956, France gave a plot of land dominating Omaha Beach. The cemetery consists into infinite lines of marble and several monuments rending homage to the US Nation. Over 9000 US soldiers are resting for eternity here. Don’t miss the chapel, the visitor’s center and above all the Garden of the Missings, with the names of 1557 soldiers that were never found.
Drop-off is at 5:00 PM back in Bayeux at the Place du Québec.
